Disjointed

1) There's 'major' flooding in areas of RURAL Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky and they get national coverage?

2) I bought the cutest shoes yesterday. They replace my previous favorite shoes. I have a habit of buying a pair of shoes and wearing them until they (quite literally) fall apart. And even then, if I can jury rig them with rubberband and tape and no one sees, then I will continue to wear them. But I likes them! They are quite comfy. They'll do.

3) I would love to be in college right now. The protests, the rallies for the election - it would be quite exciting, I think.

4) I absolutely adore the weekend GMA team. ADORE.

5) People in my generation...specifically, people close to my age, the first wave of Gen Yers (1982 - 1994) are in a weird position. I suppose it's true for the later Gen-Xers, too. On GMA, they're showing how the "Ivory Tower Has Gone High Tech" - concierges, kiosks, Starbucks, free iPhones, downloadable lectures -- and it reminds me of a conversation I had with a close friend of mine the other day. We are in a weird position. We remember what it was like before we had internet and cell phones and iPods and laptops and just name it... but I also couldn't imagine not having them anymore. I am surgically attached to my Blackberry. It's not out of my site, or hardly ever. I carry my super tiny, super high pixel digital camera on me at all times, along with my iPod. I'm online, RIGHT NOW, in fact. But then there's my aunt who, every time she hits the 'print' button, it starts to shake and smoke--no matter how many times I fix it and get it to work for me. But there's also my five year old cousin who wants me to play a computer game with her and has to show me how it works because I have no clue. But she'll never know a world without all these things. Her older brother, who is technically part of Generation Y with me (born in 1992), won't really know, either. I think people my age are in a unique position. iPhones, Blackberries, MacBook Airs seem so...ubiquitous now, it's so weird to remember they haven't been around for long.

6) I'm getting better. But my nose hurts. :\

Multitasker

Walking across an airport, pulling a suitcase in one hand, carry-on over my shoulder, purse over my elbow, Frappuccino, latte, Blackberry in hand, iPod in pocket with the earbuds looped through my belt loop to hold them up and a book tucked under my arm.

Now that is talent.

It's almost like I was living in Chicago again.

THIS

is why Cedar Rapidians are so pissed off about the lack of coverage.

As far we're we're concerned? Not overreacting.

Some notes:

The beginning of the video shows the front door to the Alliant Tower. There is absolutely nowhere in town that they could've gotten that footage except from the roof of my building.

At 1:00, you see Mays Island, our city hall. At 1:06, you see the Federal Building I mentioned several times. The river is between them. At 1:10, you see 1st St. Then, at 1:12, you see my building. United Fire Group.

I told you we were close.

At 3:53 - 4:00, you are looking from inside the Skywalk in the Alliant Tower, directly at the front door of my building. The doors are right on the edge of that wall...under 8 feet of water.

The rushing sound you hear is not the quality of the video. It's the sound of the water.

ETA: I have promised Jess a hundred times to do an update post and I will. But not tonight. It's too late and I'm too self-pissed off to do it. Hopefully tomorrow.
